Ban on silicone breast implants lifted after 14 years
Friday, November 17th, 2006
The FDA lifted its 14-year ban on silicone breast implants today when it announced approval for implants made by two different companies.
While many of the concerns about the safety of silicone implants still exist, recent studies have not conclusively shown a link between silicone implants and disease. During the last 14 years many women have traveled outside the US to get silicone implants rather than opt for the only FDA approved alternative, saline implants. Saline implants look and feel less natural than silicone ones.
