Oh food, food, food. How I love thee!!
Food keeps bellies full and happy, brings family and friends together and can cause such joy for many. Food also has the ability to keep us healthy, strong and able. Today I present 10 power foods that contain high amounts of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, proteins and more. Cheers to decreasing the risk of illness, boosting the immune system, and improving memory and concentration.

Almonds:
Chalk-full of antioxidants, almonds help fight wrinkles, aging, cancer, heart disease and strokes. Let's not forget the abundant amount of potassium and calcium in almonds to keep your organs and bones healthy and happy.

Barley:
Fiber...more fiber please. Barley contains a ton of fiber which helps to lower cholesterol and balance blood glucose levels. And lets not forget that fiber helps to keep you full and regular.

Beans:
Beans, beans the magical fruit...but seriously, beans are low in fat, and high in fiber, protein, iron, and antioxidants. Beans help to reduce cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Blueberries:
One look at that gorgeous image above and my mouth is watering. Blueberries contain an assortment of antioxidants that protect brain function by enhancing nerve signals. Additionally, studies have found that blueberries help protect and heal the body against diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Cabbage:
No, it's not just for rabbits. Cabbage contains large amounts of glutamine, which is an amino acid that has anti-inflammatory properties and is beneficial to the heart and circulatory systems. Added bonus: cabbage works to treat stomach, skin and intestinal ulcers AND it can help to repair aged and sun-damaged skin. Asian cabbage salad anyone?

Garlic:
I LOVE you garlic. Garlic has all-natural antibiotic and antioxidant effects in the body which fight colds and flus. Garlic also has heart-healthy benefits such as decreasing blood pressure and cholesterol levels and preventing blood clots in the arteries. Pass the garlic stat!

Kale:
Kale is a leafy green that contains a ton of calcium, iron, fiber and vitamins A, C, E and K. Kale chips = HEAVEN.

Oats:
It's no wonder oatmeal is the breakfast choice of millions. Oats contain abundant amounts of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Oats are important for bone, muscle and joint health and they contain complex carbohydrates, fats, and iron that help to provide long lasting energy.

Pumpkin:
This nutty, sweet delight is packed with a potent antioxidant that protects the body's cells. Pumpkin is also important for eye health. It can reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration, a serious eye disease that can cause blindness.

Yogurt:
Yogurt contains protein, potassium, calcium and vitamins A, B and D. It also contains active probiotic bacteria cultures that aid in healthy digestion and boosts the immune system.
Go ahead and get your grub on with these delicious power foods. Here's to happiness, health and well-being!
